Show and Tell

Dear Parents,
I'm excited to tell you that we are starting our Show and Tell presentations Friday, Sep. 16th.
You can find the schedule on the side bar of the blog. Students are asked to bring in an item that starts with the letter of the week.

Show and tell provides your child with an opportunity to share with classmates something special to him/her.  In addition to feeling excited, proud, etc. about his/her item, many reading and language arts objectives are addressed.

Speaking in front of an audience with the appropriate volume and posture is not easy.  I prompt, yet it would be more valuable for your child to tell about their item without my prompts.  Practicing should be part of your child’s homework the night before his/her show and tell day.  It only takes a couple minutes!

Some students remember show and tell every week; however, many students have a hard time remembering to bring something to share.  Most are sad when their day comes and they forgot.  If your child does not participate in show and tell, some of the objectives will not be addressed as often as needed.

During show and tell it is also important to learn how to be an appropriate audience member.  It is very hard not to interrupt the speaker, talk to your neighbor or get distracted by various other things going on in the classroom.  We work on these skill throughout the year as well.

Show and Tell Objectives Covered

  1. Share ideas in oral presentations
  2. Volume of voice
