Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner!

I just want to let you know of a couple of things regarding SJA Spirit Dress Up Day on the 31st.

Students may come dressed in a costume (please nothing scary or gory) or in Halloween colors (orange and/or black).

Students may bring treats to share with the class. All treats must be NUT FREE. Students will not be allowed to eat any Halloween candy at school, they will be taking all candy home. :)

If your child has a Halloween bucket or bag, please bring in on that day.

I'm excited as I'm planning a fun day involving math and language! :)

We had a great day together!
In the morning we had snacks and circle time where we did the calendar, weather, 100th day of school counting, songs and Show and Tell presentations.
Next, we read a book titled: "Aaron's Hair". It is a funny story where the boy tells himself he doesn't like his hair. The hair gets upset and runs away. Basically the focus of the story is for us to be happy just the way we are. Linking with the story we started ,making self portrait using clay. We will finish next week.

 

In the afternoon we had French class and a math activity on graphing. As a class we counted and graphed pictures of apples, apple pie and apple sauce. We also learned what tally means.
After second recess we had reading buddies with the gr. 4s and prize box.

Happy Thursday!

Today we began our day with gym class, snacks and morning circle time.
In language we practiced beginning sounds, which was our daily five - work on letters. JKs were encouraged to cut and paste the pictures matching the beginning sound. Next, we had our daily five - read to self where students chose grade level books to read silently.
After recess we had the audio center for our daily five - listen to reading.
Then students attended French class.
In Math/UOI we used buttons to sort into colors.
After second recess JKs had Art class with Ms. Kerr.
The activity with the leaves I had planned for today didn't work that well, as the leaves were too dry and breaking it apart. If you have big colorful fresh leaves in your front/backyard, please kindly send them tomorrow.

Happy and Sunny Wednesday!

So glad we still have the sunshine and warm weather!
Today we started the day off with gym class, snacks and morning circle time.
We then sang our phonics song and practiced writing the letters R and N.
After that JKs had play doh and the letter R mat. They used the play doh to form the letter R.
In the afternoon we had our daily five - listen to reading, French class and JKs were introduced to graphing. We graphed the boys and girls in our class. Next, we graphed JK's favourite fruit.
JKs also had the opportunity to sort math manipulatives, they worked at their table with their classmates.
After recess we had story time outside and collected different color of leaves from our backyard. Tomorrow we will be graphing the leaves by color.

Exciting!!!

Happy Tuesday!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
It was nice to listen to students stories about their weekend!
Today we began the day with gym and art classes. Then we had a snack and morning circle time.
The special helper counted the numbers on the calendar, we added a day to our 100th day of school counting, we checked Johnny's outfit, if it matched the weather outside and we sang some songs.
Then we met our 2 animal friends of the week: Nicky Narwhal and Rusty Rooster. We learned our new phonics song which will help us to remember the sounds for R and N. For students who already master the letter sounds, we focus on beginning sounds, words that begin with those letters.
Next we put on our detective's hat and looked for all Ns on our paper.
After lunch, students participated in the workshop from Dairy Farmers of Ontario. We learned about cows, what they need to produce milk and healthy eating.

Then JKs had French class.
In Math I introduced to them our data management unit. First I asked them if they know what sorting means. Some guessed close, but majority didn't know. We made this chart together, to help us remember ways we can sort.

To finish off the day we had centers where students had the opportunity to explore a phonics game from leap frog, lego blocks, numeracy bead activity and locktagons.

Special Visit Tomorrow

I'm excited to announce that tomorrow the Dairy Framers of Ontario will visit our class. This is our 4th year participating and learning with them.
The Dairy Industry serves as an interesting and unique learning vehicle for students to gain further knowledge while developing skills that will help them become well-informed decision makers and life-long learners. The program is 45 minutes in length with interactive activities based on the latest Ontario Curriculum presented by the Ontario Dairy Educator.
This program is a free service to teachers and provides educational support to elementary schools in Ontario, Canada. It offers an exciting and interactive learning opportunity for students.
The guest speaker will talk about healthy eating as one of the subjects. This will be interesting to our JKs as everyday I remind them of eating their healthy snack in the morning. :)
