Happy Friday!

Today we had a busy day!
We began our day with IB Learner Profile Awards in the gym and also a yoga house game.
Everyone had fun! Here are the Inquirers from our class. Every month we will focus in one of the Learner Profile attributes.

Next we had snacks and morning circle time. In the morning we also had the Show and Tell presentations. Everyone did a good job!

In the afternoon we read some stories and worked on a letter D identification activity. We put our detectives hat on and tried to find as many Ds as possible on the sheet by using the bingo dauber to stamp.

Next we practiced tracing and writing the letter D correctly. To those who are already aware of letter formation we try to focus on writing in the lines.
After second recess we painted a Fall tree using the pine cones collected by students a couple of weeks ago. They were so happy we got to use those as part of our activity.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hooray for Hands on Learning!!!

Make sure to check our inquiry board right outside of our class!

Happy Terry Fox Day!

Today we started the day with gym class and snack time.
Next we participated in the Terry Fox Run/Walk. Due to the weather we walked in the auditorium.
After the TF walk, JKs had Art class with Ms. Kerr.
In the afternoon we had our calendar time (which we didn't have time to do in the am), then we worked on a numeracy cut and paste activity.
To finish off the day students practiced their name writing and participated in our daily five - listen to reading and read to self.
Have a great evening everyone! Enjoy the Terry Fox video:

Happy Wednesday!

Today our day was filled with fun activities!
In the morning we had gym class and then we baked our own morning snacks. All the JKs helped baking apple snacks. As we baked, we talked about our senses and students had fun playing around with the dough. Take a look at the pictures.
Next, we came back in class and observed the color of our apple experiment from yesterday. Then students attempted to draw the apple the way it looks, brown on the inside!
In the afternoon we read a book with Ms. K., had French class and worked on numeracy.
To end our day we had reading buddies with the gr. 4s.
Have a great evening everyone!

*Gym uniform is required tomorrow!

Homework

Dear Parents,
JKs don't usually bring homework home, I understand they need their down time as their day is already very busy. However if you think your child would benefit from doing some work at home, let me know and I'll prepare something suitable for him/her.
Homework doesn't always have to be a paper and pencil kind of work. Most importantly it needs to be relevant and engaging!
Here are some of the hands on activities we do in class and students love it! :)

A word about the SJA Parent Guild...

Dear JK Parents,
Your child took home today an invitation for our Parent Guild "Meet and Greet" taking place this Friday from 4-5:30pm.
I just want to let you know that the Parent Guild has done a fantastic job last year. They have raise funds for numerous math manipulatives, books, the PA system, the installation of our playground and the list goes on!
I strongly suggest you come to this meeting on Friday and listen out what the plan is for this school year! I'll be there for sure! :)
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Happy Tuesday!

Today we began the day with gym class, morning circle time and healthy snacks.
In language we sang our phonics song and completed a page of our Handwriting Without Tears workbook for the letter D.
Next, we practiced writing the letter D on dry erase boards and had our daily five reading to self.
In the afternoon we started an apple experiment. JKs inquired about why apples look "dirty" when we open them and leave in the air for a bit. Today as part of our inquiry, we guessed what students think it will happen when we open an apple, here are their guesses:
- the apple will change color - Carina
- the apple will turn either green. yellow or pink - Omar
- juice will come out - Simrin
- it will look dirty - Rithika
- it will turn brown - Kareem
We will leave the apple in our class overnight and tomorrow we will find out the answer and why.
Of course, my friends wanted to try the apples one more time before we use them all for baking tomorrow! :)
JKs were also inquiring about the seeds. We might try do some experiment with the seeds as well  in the next couple od days! :)
After recess students attended art class and we had a story time!
Have a great evening everyone! We still have the bake sale tomorrow and is also casual day!

Happy Monday!

Today we had a great day, despite the weather outside! :)
In the morning students attended gym class, then we had a snack and morning circle time.
In language we met our new animal friend, Dexter Donkey. Students are learning the name, sound and formation of the letter D. Then we completed a page of their Handwriting Without Tears workbook which is part of our Daily Five program - work on writing.
Next, we had our Daily Five - read to self and read to someone.
In the afternoon students attended French class and we had story time. In Math we used apples as a non-standard measuring tool to check how many apples tall we are. Before students came to the wall to measure themselves, they had to guess. This was good activity to practice counting.
To finish off the day we had centers.
Have a great evening everyone!
