We had a great day!
In the morning we had gym, snacks and morning circle time.
Next we did our pumpkin investigation where students were asked to describe the outside of the pumpkin, we counted the lines on the pumpkin, students were asked to guess what would the pumpkin feel like on the inside and they also guessed how many seeds we would find.
We opened the pumpkin, JKs had the opportunity to use their senses to investigate.
In the afternoon we played "hot pumpkin pass it on" and practiced numeracy skills by using the 10 frame. The concept of one to one correspondence is introduced as a precursor to counting with meaning. When children begin counting, they can often sound off the numbers from memory without giving it much thought. This is called "rote counting." Assigning meaning to the numbers, by helping the child understand that the number 1 represents one object, number 2 represents 2 objects, etc. Before, counting with meaning can be taught, children will need to understand how to match groups of equally numbered items or one to one correspondence.
To finish off the day we had extra recess outside as the weather was beautiful!
Students attended French and Gym classes and also had the Show and Tell presentations.
Have a great long weekend everyone!

Fun Wednesday!
Today we started the day off with gym class, snacks and morning circle time.
Students then attended Art class and we had some time to read stories with Ms. K.
In the afternoon we worked on a numeracy activity where students had to match the amount with the correct number. This was a cutting and pasting kind of activity. Students would benefit from practicing more cutting at home. You may find books for cutting on the lines at the dollar store.
At our pumpkin inquiry table we guessed how the pumpkin will look like on the inside.
To finish off the day we had extra outdoor time as the weather was so nice!
Have a great evening everyone!

Happy Tuesday!
What a great weather today!
We began the day with snacks and morning circle time.
In language we worked on beginning sounds. JKs had to look at the picture and color in the correct beginning sound.
In Math we had an activity where students had to look at the number at the beginning of each row and then color in the correspondent number of squares in the ten frame.
We continued with our inquiry about pumpkins, today we watched a short clip explaining how pumpkins grow. Then students had the chance of putting the life cycle cards in sequence.
Lastly we worked on a pumpkin craft which will be ready tomorrow.
Have a great evening everyone!

Happy Monday!
Today we began the day with gym and art classes.
Next, students had a snack and morning circle time.
We also met our new animal friends, Penny Penguin and Betsy Bee. We learned the new phonics song for the week, which will help us to remember the sound for B and P and also words that begin with P and B. Next we practiced writing those letters.
As part of our inquiry based learning, students were encouraged to measure different sizes of pumpkins using snap cubes.
In math we played a game where each student roll the dice and for each number landed we had to color the correspondent number on the pumpkin sheet.
To finish off the day we had the daily five - read to self and dry erase boards.
Have a great evening everyone!

Happy Friday!
Today we had a busy day!
We began our day with IB Learner Profile Awards in the gym and also a yoga house game.
Everyone had fun! Here are the Inquirers from our class. Every month we will focus in one of the Learner Profile attributes.
Next we had snacks and morning circle time. In the morning we also had the Show and Tell presentations. Everyone did a good job!
In the afternoon we read some stories and worked on a letter D identification activity. We put our detectives hat on and tried to find as many Ds as possible on the sheet by using the bingo dauber to stamp.
Next we practiced tracing and writing the letter D correctly. To those who are already aware of letter formation we try to focus on writing in the lines.
After second recess we painted a Fall tree using the pine cones collected by students a couple of weeks ago. They were so happy we got to use those as part of our activity.
