We began the morning singing Oh Canada in the auditorium, then we headed to our class and had our morning circle time (songs, calendar, weather, counting to 100th day of school chart and story time).
In language arts we are working on our names. Students had stickers to glue right on the letters of their names. If your child already know how to recognize and write his/her name, this activity is useful for hand eye co ordination, fine motor skills and following instructions.
Then we practiced the daily five - listen to reading. I read the book "If You Take a Mouse to School". First students participated by guessing what would happen if you take a mouse to school! We had a good participation! My JKs are learning that when we want to tell our answer to the class we put our hand up! :) We can't just shout out the answer!
After lunch we had math centers with a variety of manipulatives/counters. We will be doing a lot of hands on activities as part of our unit in math and as well as tool of assessment. In the next couple of weeks I'll be observing students knowledge about numbers in general. These assessments are not used for marks, but it will be used as a guide for me to see what your child already knows.
To finish off the day we had centers and a nice story about an old lady who swallowed a bat! :)
Today JKs attended gym and French classes.
Have a great evening everyone!
